RNLI Poole

I had the privilege of being helmsman on an RNLI lifeboat and attended the rescue of several sailors in the sea off a burning tanker just outside Dover Harbour. I was instructed to shut my eyes if I felt sick as I was in a simulator which wasn’t actually moving. The sea state was turned up to a storm level that did make me feel sick but I didn’t close my eyes as I was so fixed on the rescue. I did feel very sick and I took several hours to recover. This staircase was made by the RNLI riggers.

  3. I believe it to be over 1km and 1 tonne. The RNLI riggers created it and at the end they apparently declared, never again……..
